Welcome to the Coronado National Monument. This area which abuts the United States border with Mexico is where Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado entered into the San Pedro River valley in the course of his 1540 expedition to find the Seven Cities of Cibola. The Joe Canyon hike which includes a side trip to the barbed wire fence which separates the US from Mexico and to the top of Coronado Peak is 11 miles in length with an elevation gain of 2,134 feet. The tour includes transportation to and from the trailhead. The total expected time is 8 hours. Each hiker will be outfitted with a day pack, 2 liters of water and trail snacks along with a hiking pole. Use your own judgment when it comes to clothes, but good hiking shoes / boots are recommended. The trail is well maintained by the forest service. Tour participants will meet at the Grassy Park in old town Bisbee where they will be transported to and from the trailhead.
